Dry eye (sicca syndrome)
The dry, moist eye is a change in the tears and tear film caused by a lack of tears or excessive evaporation and is associated with damage to the surface of the eye and its symptoms.
Symptoms
- Foreign body sensation, “grain of sand”
- Reddening of the eyes
- Burning, itching, scratching
- Watery eyes due to irritation of the conjunctiva
- Feeling of pressure on the eye
- Rapid fatigue of the eye
- Feeling of heaviness in the eyelids
- Sensitivity to light
- Sticky eyes in the morning
- Swollen and/or inflamed eyelid margins
- Deterioration of vision
Solution
We recommend Punctum Plugs for symptoms. These are silicone plugs that regulate the outflow of tears. This keeps the eye better moisturised and the symptoms are usually resolved.
